Great Canadian Brand Index Ranks Chapman’s as #1 Brand for 2026

Celebrating National Recognition and Enduring Values

Chapman’s has once again topped the Great Canadian Brand Index (GCBI), with the majority of last year’s leading brands, including Indigo, Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group, Roots, Canadian Tire Corporation, MEC, Booster Juice, and DAVIDsTEA, continuing to hold strong within the top ten.

According to Dr. Eugene Y. Chan, GCBI Index Author, the continued strength of the top-ranked brands underlines the deep respect Canadians have for companies that consistently reflect national values.

Meanwhile, the shift in rankings just outside of the top tier highlight how perceptions can rapidly evolve, especially when a brand’s emotional and symbolic connection with Canadians is either strengthened or weakened.

What makes Chapman’s distinctive is how well it aligns with the drivers of trust in the Canadian marketplace. People gravitate toward brands that feel predictable, principled, and human, and Chapman’s has built its reputation by delivering exactly that. It’s a reminder that trust isn’t a marketing asset — it’s an operating system,” noted Dr. Chan, PhD.

Ice Cream That Unites All Canadians

The GCBI rankings highlight an unusual and interesting finding. Most brands win some segments and lose others, but Chapman’s somehow avoids the trade-off entirely with its top position supported by all Canadians, no matter who you ask.

In a marketplace often segmented by regional, political, and demographic differences, this ice cream maker sits at the top of nearly every segment in the 2026 GCBI. Notably, this distinction spans across political affiliations—Conservatives, Liberals, and NDP supporters—as well as various regions including Alberta and Atlantic Canada.

Understanding the GCBI

Developed using academic and scientific rigour, the GCBI looks outside of the typical criteria for brand ranking.

As opposed to an exclusively revenue-based approach, the GCBI instead reflects how brands measure up to the qualities that Canadians cherish most. The brands are evaluated on these seven core values: friendly, nice, respectful, honest, tolerant, adventurous, and sustainable.

After surveying 3,441 Canadians on their perspectives of 130 well-known Canadian businesses, such as Roots, Beaver Tails, Canadian Tire and Cavendish Farms, Canadians once again showed their love for ice cream by placing Chapman’s at the top of the rankings.

What does this mean?

It is a privilege to have received this title of Canada’s Most Valued Brand from the GCBI. The emphasis placed on morality and ethical practices over financial characteristics truly makes this achievement even more rewarding.

“It is an honour to be recognized in this way,” said Penny Chapman, President of Chapman’s. “The most valuable recognition of all comes from consumers. We are deeply grateful to all Canadians for supporting us for over 50 years.”

Notably, last year Chapman’s received one of the highest possible A+ ranking in the 2025 Harris Hundred Poll, taking the second place among Canada’s top brands behind Professional Women’s Hockey League. This poll ranked Chapman’s as Canada’s #1 CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods) brand, #1 in Products & Services and #1 on overall customer experience.
