The R&D Manager works with the R&D team to create and develop new products and product lines incorporating existing and new ingredients, techniques, and technologies. This individual is responsible for recipe and formula development and ensuring that all processes and ingredients comply with applicable legislation and are seamlessly incorporated into the existing systems and programs. The R&D Manager oversees the R&D Department and provides technical expertise as required for other departments. This role will over see all product launches and product trial runs in the plant.
Summary of Essential Job Functions:
- Lead the R&D team in all development projects
- Assist with technical troubleshooting of production or product issues
- Maintain awareness of technical, legislative, industry and market trends and provide technical assessments and recommendations
- Monitor ongoing production to evaluate opportunities for production or product improvements.
- Assess and analyze competitor products for comparison to Chapman’s products and capabilities.
- Maintain product yields data base and production recipes, ensure all changes are tracked accordingly
- Develop and maintain strong effective relationships with supplier and customer technical, sales and marketing teams to ensure expectations are communicated clearly
- Manage ongoing product development projects
Position Requirements:
- University degree or diploma in a related field and 15+ years of relevant experience OR an advanced degree in a related field plus 10 years of relevant experience will be preferred
- Ability to demonstrate strong organizational and project management skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills will be required to work with internal and external contacts
- Direct technical experience in the food industry
- Strong understanding of ingredient functionality, food safety and regulatory affairs
Working Conditions:
Required work in office, manufacturing facilities, pilot plant environments locally and at vendor or customer facilities as required.
