Job Summary:

Manager(s) are responsible for ensuring product safety, quality, and regulatory compliance across all stages of production, from raw materials to finished goods. This includes overseeing HACCP, GMP, and third-party audit standards (SQF, BRC), while maintaining and continuously improving Quality Management Systems.

The role is accountable for managing Quality teams, addressing non-conformances through root cause analysis and corrective actions, and overseeing customer and consumer complaint programs. Manager(s) act as a key liaison with regulatory agencies (CFIA, FDA), auditors, and suppliers to ensure all requirements are met. This position supports audit readiness, leads internal and external audits, manages recall activities when required, and drives continuous improvement across R&D, production, and supply chain functions. Manager(s) are expected to promote a strong culture of food safety and quality across all departments, ensuring compliance with company, customer, and regulatory standards.

Summary of Essential Job Functions:

Food Safety & Quality Systems Management

  • Implement and maintain systems like HACCP, GMP, SQF, and BRC
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and company standards
  • Continuously improve Quality Management Systems (QMS)

Product Quality & Integrity

Oversee:

  • Raw material inspection
  • In-process and finished product testing
  • Hold/release programs

Manage:

  • Allergen control programs
  • Root cause analysis
  • Corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)

Audits & Regulatory Compliance

  • Lead internal and external audits
  • Ensure compliance with agencies like: CFIA (Canada), FDA (U.S.)
  • Address audit findings and implement corrective actions

Team Leadership & Culture

  • Manage and mentor Quality team members
  • Train staff on food safety and quality standards
  • Promote a strong culture of quality across all departments

Data Analysis & Continuous Improvement

  • Analyze quality metrics and trends
  • Generate reports for management
  • Lead improvement initiatives across production and processes

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work with: R&D (new product development), Operations & Production, Procurement & Supply Chain and Sales teams
  • Ensure quality standards are integrated across all functions

Supplier Quality Management

  • Evaluate and monitor supplier compliance
  • Ensure incoming materials meet food safety standards

Customer & Consumer Complaint Handling

  • Manage complaint programs
  • Conduct investigations and trend analysis
  • Provide timely, accurate responses
  • Use insights to improve product quality

Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Oversight

  • Maintain and improve GMP programs
  • Track and report compliance trends
  • Recommend improvements

Recall & Risk Management

  • Lead product recall processes if necessary
  • Ensure traceability and risk mitigation systems are effective

All personnel may be required to perform duties outside of their normal responsibilities as needed.

Position Requirements:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field (e.g., Food Science, Microbiology)
  • 5–7 years in food manufacturing or lab environment
  • Experience in quality management within food processing

Technical Knowledge

  • Food safety systems:
    – HACCP, GMP, SQF, BRC
  • Regulatory frameworks:
    – CFIA, FDA, FSMA, USDA, Codex
  • Lab testing:
    – Microbiological, chemical, physical testing
  • Statistical tools:
    – SPC (Statistical Process Control)
  • Root cause analysis & CAPA

Compensation: At Chapman’s, compensation is guided by a pay-for-performance philosophy that recognizes and rewards individual contributions.

Salary Range: $80,000 to $110,000 annually, based on experience, skills, and internal equity.
