The Quality Assurance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the operations Quality Assurance Laboratory (testing, staffing etc.) in addition to being technical support to other departments with respect to quality processes and programs. They will be responsible for overlooking/directing/mentoring the QA Lab staff for all sampling, testing, data collection/keeping/reporting and ensure adherence to correct procedures, food safety and health and safety guidelines. The Quality Assurance Supervisor has responsibilities to be leaders in all quality programs and processes within the company, supporting all departments through GMP Auditing, technical investigations, supplier follow up and any issues revolving food safety. Responsible for reporting to Quality Assurance Manager, and Management. Other duties may be assigned as required.
This supervisory position is for the Straight Night Shift Sunday pm to Friday am.
Summary of Essential Job Functions
• Ensures accuracy and reliability in all QA lab testing through the process of direction, monitoring and coaching of the staff. This includes accurate records and reporting in a prescribed time frame.
• Maintains all forms and records in accordance with laboratory procedures.
• Effectively troubleshoots and assists in resolving any Quality related issues within the company. Reports of findings are communicated effectively to Management and/or other departments as required.
• Maintains laboratory equipment and laboratory supplies.
• Keeps up to date with technical developments.
• Leads in monitoring the integrity of in-coming and in house ingredients. Supplier interaction/follow through occurs in events of non-conformances.
• Conducts GMP and Allergen training for new employee orientation.
• Prepares and sends samples for third party analysis when required.
• Follows/enforces safety procedures within a Lab environment as well as a Production facility.
• Backup to Quality Assurance Manager and Quality Systems Coordinator.
Position Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in a related scientific field.
• Five to seven years of experience in a Food Manufacturing lab environment
• Knowledge of Quality Assurance programs in a food environment
• Supervisory experience an asset.
• Must have a strong understanding of WHMIS and SDS.
• Must be knowledgeable in health, safety and environmental standards.
• Knowledge of laboratory techniques, terminology, equipment and materials.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of chemical and physical testing and analyses including the preparation of materials, equipment and samples.
• Ability to use and maintain laboratory equipment for standard physical testing.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instruction.
• Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
• Good eyesight and manual dexterity skills in laboratory manipulative techniques.
• Demonstrate applicable ethics and due diligence.
• Manage time effectively.
